Children's Justice Act Partnerships for Indian Communities
  


     PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:
    Fifteen percent of the first $20 million of funds from the Crime Victims Fund that are transferred to the Department of Health and Human Services as part of the Children's Justice Act are to be statutorily reserved by the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) to make grants for the purpose of assisting Native American Indian tribes in developing, establishing, and operating programs designed to improve the handling of child abuse cases, particularly cases of child sexual abuse, in a manner which limits additional trauma to the child victim and improves the investigation and prosecution of cases of child abuse.

     ELIGIBLE FUNCTIONAL CATEGORIES:
    1. COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT;
    - Indian Action Services;
    2. EDUCATION;
    - Indian Education;
    3. HEALTH;
    - Indian Health;
    4. INCOME SECURITY AND SOCIAL SERVICES;
    - Indian Services;
    5. LAW, JUSTICE AND LEGAL SERVICES;
    - Law Enforcement - Research, Education, Training;

     WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM THIS PROGRAM:
    - Native American Organizations;

     WHO CAN APPLY:
    - State (includes District of Columbia, public institutions of higher education and hospitals);
    - Local (includes State-designated Indian Tribes, excludes institutions of higher education and hospitals);
    - Federally Recognized Indian Tribal Governments;
    - Private non-profit institution/organization (includes institutions of higher education and hospitals);
