     PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:
    Grants are to be made to increase police presence and improve cooperative efforts between law enforcement agencies and members of the community; to expand community policing efforts through the use of technology and other innovative strategies; to increase security and reduce violence in our nation's schools; to address crime and disorder problems; and to otherwise enhance public safety.

     ELIGIBLE FUNCTIONAL CATEGORIES:
    1. LAW, JUSTICE AND LEGAL SERVICES;
    - Law Enforcement - Planning and Operations;
    - Law Enforcement - Research, Education, Training;
    - Law Enforcement - Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs;
    - Law Enforcement - Crime Analysis and Data;
    - Legal Services - General Services;

     WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM THIS PROGRAM:
    - State;
    - Local;
    - Federally Recognized Indian Tribal Governments;
    - Private non-profit institution/organization;

     WHO CAN APPLY:
    - State (includes District of Columbia, public institutions of higher education and hospitals);
    - Local (includes State-designated Indian Tribes, excludes institutions of higher education and hospitals);
    - Federally Recognized Indian Tribal Governments;
    - Private non-profit institution/organization (includes institutions of higher education and hospitals);
