PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:
To promote and plan for the development and
utilization of domestic waterways, ports, and port facilities, to
provide technical advice and information to Government agencies, private
industry and State and municipal governments; to support the laws
reserving domestic waterborne commerce to U.S. built, owned, and
registered vessels for reasons of national security and economic
development, examine opportunities for expanding Maritime trade and
service; to plan for the utilization and control of ports and port
facilities under national mobilization conditions; to promote
development and improved utilization of marine related intermodal
transportation systems; to provide technical information and advice to
other agencies and organizations concerned with intermodal development;
to formulate national and regional policies and objectives for
development and use of intermodal transportation systems including
containerization and container size standards; to develop plans,
coordinate pilot operations concerned with improved techniques in
marine-related intermodal transportation; to assist in planning and
development of intermodal transport systems under national mobilization
conditions.
