     PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:
    The general mission of the National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research (NCMRR) is to foster development of scientific knowledge needed to enhance the health, productivity, independence and quality of life of people with physical disabilities. To accomplish this goal, the center stimulates, coordinates and supports research and research training. The focus is on health-related improvement in human functioning: physical, cognitive, behavioral, and social. Medical rehabilitation research concerns the scientific acquisition of knowledge about potential or existing interventions that have the goal of maximizing the health-related functioning of people with conditions associated with disabilities. The field encompasses research in broad ranges of disciplines in the biological, social, behavioral, psychological, and allied health sciences. Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program: To expand and improve the SBIR program; to increase private sector commercialization of innovations derived from Federal research and development; to increase small business participation in Federal research and development; and to foster and encourage participation of socially and economically disadvantaged small business concerns and women-owned small business concerns in technological innovation. Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) program: To stimulate and foster scientific and technological innovation through cooperative research development carried out between small business concerns and research institutions; to foster technology transfer between small business concerns and research institutions; to increase private sector commercialization of innovations derived from Federal research and development; and to foster and encourage participation of socially and economically disadvantaged small business concerns and women-owned small business concerns in technological innovation.

    - Private non-profit institution/organization (includes institutions of higher education and hospitals);
