GOVERNMENT GRANTS AND LOANS
Promotion of the Humanities_Federal/State Partnership

    PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:
    To promote local, statewide, and regional humanities programming through annual grants to humanities councils in each of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, and American Samoa. The 56 councils conduct humanities projects and grant programs for local nonprofit organizations, institutions, and groups, and occasionally for individuals. Under the provisions of 20 U.S.C. 956(f)(8), only one entity in each State may receive assistance from NEH as the State humanities council.

    ELIGIBLE FUNCTIONAL CATEGORIES:
    1. CULTURAL AFFAIRS;
    - Promotion of the Humanities;

    WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM THIS PROGRAM:
    - State;
    - Local;
    - Sponsored Organization;
    - Public nonprofit institution/organization;
    - Other public institution/organization;
    - Federally Recognized Indian Tribal Governments;
    - U.S. Territories;
    - Minority group;
    - Specialized group (e.g. health professionals, students, veterans);
    - Private non-profit institution/organization;
    - Quasi-public non-profit organization;
    - Native American Organizations;

    WHO CAN APPLY:
    - State (includes District of Columbia, public institutions of higher education and hospitals);
    - Sponsored organization;
    - Public non-profit institution/organization (includes institutions of higher education and hospitals);
    - Private non-profit institution/organization (includes institutions of higher education and hospitals);
